SpotBud ("we," "us," "the app") helps you find workout partners, join fitness challenges, track your training, and connect with a fitness community. We take your privacy seriously — especially your health and location data. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have.

1. Information we collect

Account information you provide: name, username, email, profile photo, date of birth/age, and gender.
Fitness & health data: your goals, height, weight, workout logs, and meal logs that you enter, plus step counts, active energy, and heart-rate data you choose to share from Apple Health (HealthKit).
Location: your approximate location, used only while you are using the app, to show nearby gyms, events, and potential workout partners.
Content you create: posts, comments, photos, GIFs, messages, and challenge activity.
Usage & device data: app interactions, crash and performance data, device model, and OS version, to improve the app.

2. How we use your information

To provide core features: matching you with workout partners, showing nearby gyms and events, running challenges, and powering your AI trainer and meal tools.
To personalize your experience and recommendations.
To keep the community safe (moderation, reports, blocking).
To communicate with you (welcome, reminders, and account notices).
To fix bugs and improve performance.

3. Apple Health (HealthKit)

When you allow it, SpotBud reads health data such as steps, active energy, and heart rate from Apple Health. We use this only to power your in-app fitness features. We never use HealthKit data for advertising or marketing, never sell or share it with data brokers, and never store it in iCloud. You can revoke access anytime in the iOS Health app.

4. How we share information

We do not sell your personal information. We share limited data with service providers who help us run the app, under confidentiality obligations:

Google Firebase — authentication, database, storage, and notifications.
PostHog — product analytics to understand and improve usage.
Anthropic (Claude) — powers AI trainer and meal-analysis features.
Loops — sends account and community emails.
GIPHY — provides GIF search.
Apple — Sign in with Apple, HealthKit, and in-app purchases.

Other users can see the profile information, posts, and activity you choose to make visible. Your precise location is never shown to other users.

5. Data retention & deletion

We keep your data while your account is active. You can delete your account at any time inside the app (Settings → Delete Account), which permanently removes your profile, posts, messages, workouts, meals, and challenge history. Some records may be retained briefly as required by law or to prevent abuse.

6. Your rights

You may access, correct, or delete your information. To request access or deletion, use the in-app tools or email support@spotbudapp.com. Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws such as the California Consumer Privacy Act or the GDPR.

7. Children

SpotBud is intended for users 17 and older. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us information, contact us and we will remove it.

8. Security

We use industry-standard measures to protect your data, including encrypted connections and access controls. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to keep your information safe.

9. Changes

We may update this policy. Material changes will be reflected here with a new "last updated" date, and where appropriate we will notify you in the app.
